I'm Miss Stevko

American Sign Language Teacher

Hello! Welcome to American Sign Language 1. My name is Miss Stevko and I will be your ASL teacher for the 2023-2024 school year. This is my third year teaching; I graduated from Texas State University in May of 2020 (during the beginning stages of COVID-19.) I majored in Communication Studies and minored in Leadership Studies. I am looking forward to working with you all this school year!

A little bit about me..

I enjoy spending time with my cats Cali and Moxi. I enjoy attending alternative rock/ pop concerts in my leisure time, reading books about leadership and communication, and working out. I also enjoy spending time with my family, friend, and fiancé John, and volunteering in the community. 

Course Description:

The student will learn to COMMUNICATE using ASL while focusing on the COMMUNITIES where ASL is used and how it influences Deaf CULTURE. The student will also learn to make CONNECTIONS between ASL and English as they COMPARE the hearing and Deaf worlds. Students develop communicative ability in three modes: interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational, integrating the skills of expressive and receptive communication.
